Self-Defence Is the Core Principle! 

Manage the distance and minimise the damage! This is the major core principle of Self - Defence at Northside Jiu-Jitsu with this being the main focus aspect the classes we will teach you various techniques to manage that distance and control the situation with the least amount of damage to you or the aggressor. The self-defence Program at Northside Jiu-Jitsu is designed not just for men but also for women! Going through ways to control a situation with jiu-jitsu that fits with all body shapes and sizes.

There is a ego-friendly environment at Northside Jiu-Jitsu. Not only will our coaches be on the mat from the start to finish with you, but your teammates as well will help inspire you to be the best you can be. There is no denying it. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is hard work. But it's suppose to be! If it were easy everyone would be doing it! There is a combination of cardio muscular endurance, physical strength output combined with technical and mental challenges that make Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu exciting. You won't even realise the workout you've done by the end of the class!

About Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes

Our classes are made up of two types of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Beginners and Self-Defence, as well as Principles and Concepts.

All members are welcomed regardless of experience or rank to any of our timetable structured classes! 

Self-Defence and Beginners:

The self-defence  portion of our classes consist of skillsets and systems that will help you against the the most common sorts of attacks of an unskilled aggressor. Physical confrontation is scary even amongst the skilled, at Northside we will work with you in the safest manner to support your learning helping you with practical learning and theoretical understanding to combat any situation.

Our beginners course is  focused on the importance​ of structured foundation of the core concepts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. At Northside we are trialling a Position/Situation of the month. Where we take one fundamental position or a series of situations and work towards breaking down all concepts and techniques that are related to the position or situation. This helps a student rely on their muscle memory when it comes to the "rolling" session of the class and can actively define the position and relate techniques that they have learned previously. This method has been trialled by the head coach who teaches at Northside Jiu-Jitsu at other affiliate academies and has had great success and feedback about this learning structure. 

Principles and Concepts:

Our Principles and Concepts classes ensure valuable learning, new methods and the ever evolving nature that is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. New techniques are creatively been manufactured all the time. These classes provide higher learning challenge, or "advance" learning of the martial art. ANY STUDENT regardless of rank or experience may attend these classes. Just be sure to bring an open mind and positive attitude as the learning curve is increased to fit into today's modern Jiu-Jitsu for sport and competition.
